NIBC offers warmth and comfort to people in The Hague who could use some extra support with ‘Jacket House’
The Jacket House (Jassenhuisje) is an initiative of NIBC Bank designed to provide warmth and comfort to people in The Hague who need it. The little house will be in the centre of The Hague on 30 and 31 January and will be filled with winter coats that can be taken away for free by people who need some extra support. This is how we support adults and children who sometimes struggle to dress adequately warm during the cold winter months.
According to the latest figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), an estimated 34,330 residents of The Hague last year did not have enough income or savings to make ends meet. This puts The Hague in the top 5 of municipalities in the Netherlands with the highest poverty rate.
With the Jacket House, NIBC Bank wants to fulfil its social responsibility by making a positive contribution to the local community. Based in The Hague for 80 years, NIBC Bank is inextricably linked to the city and its residents. With this initiative, we want to meet the basic need of a warm winter coat for our neighbours in The Hague.
Nick Jue, CEO of NIBC: “For many people in our community, the cold winter months can be especially difficult to make ends meet and meet basic needs. I am proud of our employees at NIBC Bank, who have collected an impressive number of jackets for the Jacket House over the past few months. With this initiative, we hope to make a positive contribution to the welfare of our fellow city residents and provide them with extra warmth and comfort during the winter months.”
Collaboration with Schuldhulpmaatje
For this initiative, NIBC Bank is collaborating with SchuldHulpMaatje. This organisation aims to reach people with (imminent) debt early and offer help via the internet and with trained volunteers, who can expertly and personally help them towards a debt-free life. Guidance on behavioural change and financial self-sufficiency are central to this.
